Former President Nicolas Sarkozy Placed in Custody

Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy and the deposed Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi

As part of an investigation into suspicious Libyan financing of his 2007 presidential campaign, former French President Nicolas Sarkozy was placed in police custody on Tuesday morning March 20th.


For the first time since the launch of the investigation, the former head of state is heard by the police of the Central Office for the fight against corruption and financial and tax offenses (OCLCIFF) in Nanterre, near Paris.


Launched in 2013 on accusations of financing Nicolas Sarkozy’s 2007 presidential campaign by former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, the investigation is entering a new phase.
