Four terrorists connected to “al- Ahvaziya” group opened fire on a military parade in Iran’s southwestern city of Ahvaz this Saturday morning.

Three of the attackers were killed and a fourth was arrested. A final report released by hospital sources reported the deaths of 29 people, and more than 50 wounded. Hospital sources have announced that the death toll is expected to rise.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei expressed his condolences to the families of the martyrs of this tragic incident. Ayatollah Khamenei urged that it was the duty of the security forces to bring to justice those responsible of this attack, identify them and hand them over to the judicial authorities.

Below is the text of the message given by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution:

“The tragic and heartrending incident of the martyrdom of a group of our dear people in Ahvaz at the hands of the mercenary terrorists has once again exposed the atrocity and viciousness of the enemies of the Iranian nation.

These hardhearted mercenaries who open fire on innocent women, children and men are at the service of the liars and hypocrites that still claim to defend human rights.

Their spiteful hearts cannot bear to see the manifestation of national sovereignty during an Armed Forces parade. Their crime is a continuation of the conspiracies by US-backed regimes in the region which aim to create insecurity in our dear country.

However, to their dismay, the Iranian nation will persist on the noble and prideful path they have taken and will—like before—overcome all animosities.

I hereby express my solidarity and sympathy with the families of these dear martyrs and ask God for patience and divine calm for them as well as the elevation of the heavenly ranks of the martyrs. The intelligence sectors must swiftly and meticulously track the sponsors of this attack, to identify them and to hand them over to the judicial authorities.”
